The number of COVID-19 cases has been drastically growing in Iowa and Fort Dodge schools are now taking steps of precaution.

Fort Dodge schools wanted to be on track to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As of now, the schools will remain business as usual. These schools include Fort Dodge Community School District, Iowa Community College and St. Edmund Catholic.

“We are taking this very seriously,” said Jesse Ulrich, superintendent of public schools, reported by Messenger News. “We’re being cautious but making sure people aren’t overreacting to the hype of the pandemic.”

The schools in the area are relying on the help of the Iowa Department of Public Health to assist with any decisions in the future regarding the school district and their operation during COVID-19. The only cancellations that have been made so far are a student trip to Washington, D.C and a speech competition. A deep clean of all of the Fort Dodge community schools will be completed as well.
