The weather wasn’t perfect, but wind and a few sprinkles did not keep the Iowa Central Cross Country and Track and Field Teams from brightening the day for residents at Friendship Haven.
The Triton runners teamed up with around 20 residents from the retirement and healthcare center which neighbors campus to participate in a walk around the facility.
Residents bundled up to head outside with members of the team and made a lap around the Friendship Haven Campus before wet conditions brought them back inside.
“Our residents always enjoy this and love getting to talk with the college kids,” said Kourtney Condon, a member of the Friendship Haven Wellness Team. “The weather had other plans this time, but everyone still had fun.”
Dee Brown, Cross Country and Track and Field Coach said the tradition started when a former runner was employed at Friendship Haven and has continued at least once each Cross Country and Track Season since.
“It’s something the kids and residents enjoy,” Brown said. “We always receive such positive feedback from residents and their families. Even when they get to have a brief conversation, they’re really building significant connections.”
