How does the City flush water mains?

Water mains are flushed in a specific sequence - opening certain hydrants along a line in a systematic method. It can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to flush a main.

Water coming out of the hydrant is flowing at a very high rate of speed and pressure - remember safety first! Stay out of the way to prevent injury to yourself or damage to property.
