City of Fort Dodge will begin the transition from chalking of tires to a new handheld parking enforcement device

On Monday, July 25, 2022, the City of Fort Dodge will begin the transition from chalking of tires to a new handheld parking enforcement device. This new device will utilize license plate recognition to determine if a vehicle has moved from its current on-street position within the two-hour time period as permitted by City ordinance. Tickets will be generated from a small printer carried by Community Service Officer Westergaard and placed on windshields in the same manner as the previous yellow tickets.

This is the first phase of a multiphase project that will eventually see license plate recognition expanded into City-owned lots and parking permits. More information on future phases will be announced as the timeline and equipment deliveries are firmed up.

If you have questions about the downtown parking system changes, please contact Captain Dennis Quinn with the Fort Dodge Police Department via email at dquinn@fortdodgeiowa.org. We'll also be going live around 3:00 pm today, July 20, 2022, to show you the new technology in action.
