As the 4th of July approaches, here is a reminder of the City Code relating to the usage of fireworks within the city limits of Fort Dodge:
1) No person under 18 can possess or discharge consumer fireworks without parental supervision. If someone under the age of 18 is found to have or be discharging consumer fireworks without parental supervision, the fireworks will be confiscated in addition to any other penalty as allowed by law.
2) Consumer fireworks can only be discharged on a person’s real property.
3) A person is not to discharge consumer fireworks in any parks, public lands, buildings or right-of-way without a permit through the City of Fort Dodge. The discharge of fireworks on public roadways is also forbidden.
4) Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged by individuals showing visible signs of or determined to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or narcotics.
5) Individuals who choose to discharge consumer fireworks assume all responsibility for its operation and consequences.
6) Altering, removing or discharging components of a consumer fireworks device in any way other than the intended discharge method is not permitted.
7) Due to the serious threat of fire or injury posed by the use of consumer fireworks outside of what the Code allows, strict civil liability will be imposed on owners or legal tenants of real property for all violations of the Code.
a. 1st Offense – minimum fine of $500.00
b. 2nd & Subsequent Offenses – minimum fine of $750.00
This year, Consumer fireworks discharge will be permitted on the following dates/times in celebration of the 4th of July:
Friday, July 1, 2022 – 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Saturday, July 2, 2022 – 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Sunday, July 3, 2022 – 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Monday, July 4, 2022 – 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm
