The plant that produces safe drinking water for Webster City will be getting some upgrades this year.
A new carbon dioxide and booster pump system will be installed. Also a new chlorination system will be installed. That system will inject a small amount of chlorine into the water to kill bacteria.
Those new systems will be integrated with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which is the software that helps run the plant.
Peterson Construction Co., of Webster City, was hired by the City Council Monday to do the work at a cost of $693,000.
That cost will be paid for with revenue from water bills.
Mayor John Hawkins said engineers who designed the upgrades estimated that the work would cost $700,000.
“It was under budget,” he said.
Hawkins said the company will have 200 days to do the work.
Peterson Construction Co. was the only bidder for the job.
The council was hired by a unanimous vote of the council.
