Jasmine Haug planned to study in the dental hygiene program after graduating from Chariton High School.
However, when she started her studies at Iowa Central Community College, Haug found herself moving in a different direction.
“I came here to study dental hygiene, but it wasn’t for me,” she said. “Not knowing what I wanted to do, I took one class with (David) Barwin and really liked it, so I went along with it.
“I didn’t really know what to do originally, but I’ve enjoyed it and now I see it in my future. The moment I knew the business program was for me was in his class.”
The change in plans was made easier for Haug thanks to her advisors.
“They were really good about it,” she said. “They talked me through everything and made it really easy. They told me it wasn’t the end of the world and wasn’t a big deal, which really made it super easy to change.”
Haug plans to graduate in the spring with her degree in business.
“I’m planning on taking a gap year and maybe find a job that I can either stick with or move on to another school after,” she said. “I feel ready and feel confident because of the general overview I’ve received of everything in the business world.”
