Transportation Technology Center selected for grant

Iowa Central Community College recently issued the following announcement.

Iowa Central Community College was selected as one of the recipients of the Future Ready Iowa 2022 Employer Innovation Fund.

With matching partner Decker Truck Line, Inc., the Transportation Technology Center will be able to expand upon its fleet with the purchase of automatic trucks.

“Through this grant, and thanks to the incredible matching offer of Don Decker and Decker Truck Line, we will be able to serve our students with more equipment-ready vehicles and better prepare them for their futures,” said Neale Adams, Business and Industrial Technolgy Dean at Iowa Central. “We are looking at the vehicles right now and hoping to have them here as soon as possible.”

Iowa Central offers a variety of CDL courses that prepares students for the concepts of operating a semi-tractor and trailer.

The Future Ready Iowa Employer Innovation Fund is a grant opportunity for partners to carry out creative solutions that address local workforce issues. It encourages employers, community leaders and others to lead efforts for developing regional workforce talent pools.

Employers can promote credit and non-credit education and training opportunities in high-demand jobs with the fund being used in innovative ways to help Iowans achieve their training and education goals.

A total of 38 Iowa employers and partner organizations were awarded $1.4 million in grants for the fund.

“Iowa needs innovative ideas to grow our workforce and train the skilled workers who will help create a prosperous future for our industries and state,” said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in a press release. “These awards are quality investments in developing the deep talent pool necessary to keep our economy moving forward.”
