Iowa Central Community College recently issued the following announcement.
The Iowa Central Farm Operations and Management Class recently took a trip to the Webster County Courthouse to talk with members of the Board of Supervisors.
Under the guidance of Mike Richards, the class provides students with hands-on experiences that will help shape their lives for the years to come.
“I’ve lived on a farm my whole life,” Alex Nessa said. “This class has taught me so much more about farming and the use of chemicals. It has definitely made a huge difference to show me how much more there is in the farming world than just from my area.
“It’s been a great experience for me.”
Nessa is second cousins with Kendal Bunda, one of the collaborators the class worked with. Bunda is just one of the many resources that the students have at their disposal.
“We talk at family events all the time about farming,” Nessa said. “It’s great to get ideas from him and it’s been really fun to look at it all from a different point of view.”
Richards, who is in his second year teaching the course, also uses the help of Iowa State University.
“I just felt the need to expose students to a lot of different entities out there that are available to work with,” Richards said. “It is very valuable to collaborate with Iowa State for research and data.”
Along with Bunda and Iowa State’s Mike Witt and Brandon Zwiefel, Joe Hofbauer of NEW Cooperative, Kyle Maas from Pioneer Sales and Mike Johnson of Johnson and Johnson Insurance were also valuable resources for the students.
