Nicks: Holiday performances provide 'special feeling'

Iccc

Iowa Central Community College recently issued the following announcement.

Madison Nicks and the talented musicians at Iowa Central will gather for the annual Sounds of the Season concert events on December 9 and 10.

The two-night spectacle takes place inside Decker Auditorium and features the Iowa Central Concert Band, Triton Singers, Jazz Combo, Encore Singers, Triton Kids, Pop Voices and Vocal Jazz along with soloists, guest musicians and more under the direction of Will Lopes and Paul Bloomquist.

For Nicks, getting to perform around the holiday season is always a special time.

“The community that the choir gives its students is the thing that makes this concert so special,” Nicks said. “Everyone is so inviting and ready to welcome new members with open arms.

“Christmas time is so special and music just helps it along. Performing during the holiday season is such a special feeling because you can feel the shift in energy as you sing the classics. It is just an unreal happy feeling.”

Nicks, who is from Marcus, Iowa and attended MMCRU, is involved in all branches of choir and theater at Iowa Central. She was selected to be in Concert Choir, Encore Singers, Pop Singers and Vocal Jazz, and has performed in Newsies and plans to be in the upcoming performance of The Little Mermaid.

“My work study is also with Will Lopes so I am choir manager as well,” she said. “I am the section leader for the soprano section.”
