No. 10 Iowa Central hosts Ellsworth on Saturday

3

Iowa Central Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.

The 10th-ranked Iowa Central football team will look to put a strong cap on the regular season here Saturday when they host Ellsworth.

Kickoff is set for noon from Dodger Stadium.

The Tritons (7-2 overall, 1-2 in ICCAC) returned home this past Sunday and picked up a 63-21 victory over the Grand View JV. Earlier this year in Iowa Falls, Iowa Central downed the Panthers (2-6, 0-3), 66-17.

On the season, the Tritons have scored over 40 points six times, eclipsing the 60-point mark in three games.

Byron Jarrett ranks among the national leaders in several passing categories. The sophomore from Des Moines has thrown for 2,322 yards with 28 touchdowns, completing almost 62 percent of his passes. He also has 432 yards and nine rushing TDs.

Daylen Boddie is the lead back, racking up 549 yards and three TDs with 20 receptions and almost 200 yards in the passing game. Desna Washington has a team-high 31 receptions, 687 receiving yards and 10 scores, with Cal Weidemann and Jordan Kumm both over 300 yards receiving.

"With an experienced group that has played 18 games over the past six months, it's just about making little tweaks and adjustments," Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. "They've been pretty focused in on Ellsworth this week and not looking ahead to a bowl game."

On defense, Noah Epley has 54 tackles, CJ Christian 47 and Major Williams 45. As a collective unit, the Tritons have 23 quarterback sacks, 16 interceptions and eight fumble recoveries.

"We've just got to keep doing what we've been doing on both sides of the ball," Montalto said. "Pick up first downs, get off the field on third-down and put points on the board."

Ellsworth snapped a five-game losing skid with a 63-6 victory over Gordon Fine Arts Sports Academy at the end of October. Josh Bauer has thrown for 909 yards and nine TDs, Marice Whitlock has 322 yards rushing and Malcolm Gillie is averaging over 16 yards per catch with 379 yards and two scores.
