After cancelling school for two days because a growing number of students and staff were quarantined, a north-central Iowa school district will move to virtual learning for a week.
In the Eagle Grove Community School District, school board officials have decided to return to one week of online learning as a way to curb the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that the school can continue to operate, according to Iowa Public Radio.
Though students contracting the virus is certainly a concern, the more immediate problem is having enough instructors. With online learning, the district feels they will have enough instructors to ensure that the students have access to the education they need. Students can also participate in virtual learning at the school.
“We are opening up our schools to where they will have gymnasiums open where kids can come and work at a site as long as they're not quarantined,” Superintendent Jess Toliver said. “They can work in there and have a good internet connection to receive their instruction.”
The school district will continue to evaluate the situation as it progresses and adjust their timeline accordingly.
