Webster County will be permitted to leave its designated Mental Health and Disability Services region, making a break with County Social Services, due to recent legislation signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds.
State Rep. Ann Meyer (R-Fort Dodge) hailed the signing of House File 2643, which splits County Social Services into a minimum of two regions, according to a report by The Messenger.
“I just think it’s going to give Webster County a good chance to work out issues they have with the region and form a new region with the focus back on the people in Webster County,” Meyer said.
Meyer said that bringing control over Mental Health and Disability Services closer to the community members it serves will be a good thing.
In the past, one of the complaints from Webster County about County Social Services was that the region – which covered 22 counties in all – was unwieldy due to its size, The Messenger reported.
