Iowa residents are reeling from the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis man who was killed while in police custody last week, KCCI reported.

Throughout central Iowa, residents said Floyd's death was horrible, but not surprising, the news agency reported.

“I felt like it was another one,” Porche Botts told the news agency. “It seems like a repeat of the situations we are starting to see a lot. I felt like it was another warning sign. It is still going on.”

Another resident, Lonnie Ingram, told the news agency that Floyd's death was hard to watch, especially seeing him gasping for air and informing the officers that he couldn't breathe.

Michael Cameron told the news agency that while he supported the protests, he did not agree with the rioting and looting because they could take away from the importance of the protest.

“When it comes to looting and all that, if you are going to protest – protesting is a good thing as long as you are doing it the right way,” Cameron told the news agency. “So as far as looting and burning down targets and jumping over fences to get to the police department, (it’s) wrong. It is something we should not do.”

A protest was scheduled by Mothers Against Violence and the Des Moines Stop the Violence Crew, the news agency reported.
