The Town of Jewell has accumulated enough rescue money in an effort to resurrect its Main Street grocery store, according to WHO 13.
Andersons Meat And Grocery store closed back in January. The closure left many residents in Hamilton County with no place to get the grocery items they needed.
NBC News reported that the town residents have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to reopen the store.
Rick Young, who is on the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors, said they raised the money in five weeks.
“The past five weeks we’ve raised $154,000 in this little community. It just—I’ve run out of metaphors and analogies for how I can describe how I feel about this community, how proud I am to be a part of it,” Young told the NBC News affiliate.
Town officials say that $234,000 has been raised since January of this year. Officials say the new store will be renovated and is scheduled to open on June 13. The store will be open just in time for the annual Jewell Jubilee Celebration.
