Webster County is moving its web domain from a ".org" to a ".gov" address.
The Webster County Board of Supervisors decided to make this change during their meeting April 13. The county signed an agreement with Verisign Inc, a tech company to help them change the site over.
“Right now we’re a .org, and the Secretary of State’s office is asking everyone in the state to go to a .gov domain for more security,” said Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner according to The Messenger.
The cost to maintain the site will be $400 annually. Along with the domain change, employees' email addresses will reflect the change.
Officials were given until July by the Iowa Secretary of State to make the change.
Only U.S. government websites can use and maintain a .gov address. This includes local, state and federal divisions. For more information on registering a .gov website, visit the website.
