As the coronavirus pandemic spreads throughout the state of Iowa, efforts are taking place to protect some of the most vulnerable residents.
An emergency plan is in development to provide housing for homeless who are particularly susceptible to the virus because of age or existing health condition. WHotv News reported Goodwill of Central Iowa has teamed up with Central Iowa Shelter and Services to spearhead the effort.
To date, a number of apartments have been secured for those needing a home, although many residents will move into those apartments empty-handed. They will need many of the everyday utensils, linens and towels.
Jackie Norris, Goodwill of Central Iowa President and CEO, asked the community to step up and give what it can to help make the life of another human being a little better, according to WHOtv News.
Emergency donations are being accepted at all seven metro Goodwill locations. Each donation will be quarantined 72 hours before delivery. Donations were accepted through March 29.
